Title: The Beauty and Civility of YinchuanNews Summary
The China Standardization Research Institute’s City Comprehensive Development Index Report (2025) ranks Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia, as the 4th most beautiful city and the 10th most civilized city out of 36 major Chinese cities.
The report evaluates cities on six dimensions: innovation, livability, beauty, resilience, civility, and wisdom. It also gives detailed scores for the specific indicators that make a city “beautiful” and “civilized.”
In recent years Yinchuan has taken a series of actions to clean up the environment and move toward a greener future:
- Pollution control and ecological protection – the number of days with excellent PM2.5 air quality has risen.
- Water quality – the Yellow River stretch that runs through Yinchuan remains at a “Class II” standard.
- Water‑saving irrigation – high‑efficiency irrigation now covers a larger area, and the city has started trading reclaimed water.
On the civility side, Yinchuan has:
- Promoted the spread of moral teachings, expanded volunteer service, and showcased model citizens.
- Earned numerous national honors year after year.
- Focused on improving people’s everyday lives—renovating old neighborhoods, expanding schools and hospitals, and allocating a relatively high share of the budget to social welfare.
Reflection and Inspiration
A city’s transformation depends not only on government policies but also on the small, everyday actions of its residents. Keeping streets clean, saving water, looking out for neighbors—these ordinary habits, multiplied across many people, gradually turn a city into a better place to live. The numbers in the report are the visible outcome of countless quiet, hard‑working hands and a spirit of mutual help. They remind us that we all share the responsibility to protect our public environment and uphold honesty and fellowship in society.
Scriptural Reminder
Just as the report calls for caring for the city, Scripture calls us to love one another:
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
— Matthew 22:39 (New Testament)
